This is our basic service option for veterinarians. It is also the common choice for breeders and pet owners who are looking for an accurate PVC screening of their dogs. When we receive your Holter recordings, our certified technicians will carefully scan them and generate a hospital-quality report, complete with a clear PVC summary added to the cover page. This is a manual scan, not a computer-generated scan. The complete report will be sent to you via email. Our fee for this service is $40.00 USD per scan for 24-hour studies. The fee for long-term studies of 2-7 days is $60 USD, and the fee for studies of 8-14 days is $100 USD.
This is a more in-depth service for customers who want a cardiologist’s overview of their study. The scan has been processed as in "Service Type I," and the preliminary report will be sent to you. This report has also been sent to our cardiologist. The cardiologist will then send you an interpretation of the report. This is an option typically used for customers who want a cardiologist's opinion regarding their dog's Holter Report. The fee for this service is $100 USD. If you have already paid $40 USD for Service Type I, you can add the cardiologist’s service for an additional $60 USD.
This cardiologist report can also be used by Doberman and Boxer owners who want an Advanced Cardiac OFA certification for their dog. If you are interested in submitting your report to OFA for certification, then you need to submit both the preliminary report and the cardiologist’s report and mail directly to OFA while clearly stating that you are submitting these items for the OFA Advanced Cardiac Database. Important Note: Every Holter Monitor report provided by ALBA Medical is a manually scanned, full-service report. Our canine scanning technicians are certified veterinary-specific EKG technicians with over 20 years of experience in scanning Holter Monitors and are under the supervision of a board-certified veterinary cardiologist. All Holters sent in by breeders, vets, and cardiologists are all read the same and have all the analysis features.
Your ALBA Digital Holter uses a standard SD or CF flash card. When you insert your flash card in a properly installed card reader and look at the files on that card, you will notice there is only one file on each Holter card called "flash.dat." The concept of online Holter transmission is to get this file to us (the 24-hour recording), the patient demographics, and other important information. We use a file transfer company called HIGHTAIL for this file transfer. Please note that the Holter file is too large to email, and this is why we need to use this "Dropbox.”
Please Note: There are two ways to get this data to us. One is to use this online transmission. The other way is to physically mail us the card. This online version is pretty straightforward if you have a good Internet connection and are a bit computer savvy. Every computer and Internet system is a little different, and we cannot provide extensive tech support for every situation. If you have a problem, you are welcome to call us, but if we determine that our system is working correctly, you will be directed to physically send in your card.
Regarding Payment: We use a company called Square to securely hold our customers' credit cards on file and charge them. If we have your credit card saved in the Square system, you will receive a paid invoice from Square, and the report will be attached to the invoice. If we do not yet have your card in the system, you will receive an invoice to pay online. After paying online, we recommend that you click the button that authorizes Square to save your credit card on file. After you pay the invoice, we will send you a paid invoice with the report attached.

Step Two: Transmit a Holter to ALBA Medical
You will see a message that says, "Drag files here to share or pick from your computer."
Please note: Do not erase the flash card using "My Computer" or "Windows Explorer." If the flash.dat file is not present, the Holter will not function. Leave your card full. The next time you are hooking up another patient, insert the card, and the Holter will prompt you to erase the card.
When it comes to our pets’ heart health, sometimes we need more than just a stethoscope. A Holter monitor is a powerful diagnostic tool that allows veterinarians to look beyond the clinic and gain a deeper understanding of your dog’s heart rhythm over 24 to 48 hours. But what exactly is a Holter monitor, and how can it help your dog?
A Holter monitor is a portable device that continuously records the electrical activity of the heart. It’s essentially an extended electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) that tracks heart rhythms while your dog goes about its normal daily activities. Unlike a brief ECG taken in the clinic, the Holter monitor provides a full picture of your dog’s heart rhythm over time.
The device is attached to your dog using electrodes and a snug vest or harness that keeps everything in place. Most dogs tolerate the setup well, and the lightweight equipment doesn’t interfere with their ability to walk, eat, or play.
Certain heart conditions may not show symptoms during a brief veterinary exam. A Holter monitor can help diagnose or monitor:
The process is simple: You will follow the directions that are in the case and will attach the device. Keep a log of events, such as exercise, rest, or unusual behavior, is helpful for interpretation.
Afterward, the data is analyzed for abnormalities, such as skipped beats or periods of fast or slow heart rates. The results guide further diagnostics or treatment decisions.
Not all dogs need Holter monitoring, but if your veterinarian suspects a heart condition or if your dog belongs to a breed at high risk, it’s worth discussing. Holter monitoring is non-invasive and provides invaluable insights that can help protect your dog’s heart health and overall well-being.
